Transport to Medina College
School buses:
Term tickets for students allocated to a contracted school bus service will be available to collect from the school, college or educational institution on the first day of term. Therefore, on the first morning of the academic year, students who are eligible for a term ticket will be permitted to travel on the school bus without payment. However they must be wearing the appropriate uniform.

Is my child entitled to free home-to-school transport to Medina College?
Isle of Wight Council's policy for home-to-school transport to secondary school (age 11–16) changed from September 2015. The policy for students starting secondary school now means:

– If you live more than 3 miles from Medina College and it's your nearest secondary school by travelled route (ie road route, not straight-line distance), then your child is entitled to free home-to-school transport to Medina College.

– Or, if your child is receiving free school meals or you're on maximum tax credit, and you live between 2 and 6 miles away by travelled route, your child should be entitled to free home-to-school transport to Medina College.

If you're not sure whether you qualify, check with the School Admissions & Transport department at the Council. Let them know if there are any particular family circumstances they need to take into consideration. Email: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or tel: 01983 823455. To read the Isle of Wight Council's Home to School Transport policy, go to the Admissions page on the Council's website, and scroll down to the bottom of the page for the link to the Transport policy. If you have older children already at Medina College who qualified for free transport under the previous policy (in place before September 2015), they keep that entitlement until they leave after their GCSEs in Year 11.

What about buying a spare privilege seat on a school bus?
There are school buses to Medina College from many places on the Isle of Wight – see IW Council website for current routes. If your child isn't entitled to free transport to Medina, and there is space on the bus, they can apply for a "privilege seat". The cost this year from September 2016 is £95 per term. The Council opens an "application window" during June to apply for a privilege seat. After the closing date, seats are allocated and you receive confirmation from the Council of whether your child has secured a spare seat by the end of July.

Southern Vectis public buses
Southern Vectis has introduced multi-buy saver tickets for children travelling on public buses, which can be loaded onto a Key Card. These can be used for bus journeys at any time and don't have to be used on consecutive days. See their website for details of tickets and routes.

Active Travel
Park and Stride
If you are dropping off or picking up students by car, consider the Park and Stride arrangement for nearby Seaclose Car Park (a 5-minute stride away from Medina College), to reduce congestion on the Medina site and encourage walking. The parking permit, which is valid until the end of the current school year, is available to parents from Medina College reception. Full details here.
We have secure bike storage at the school entrance for any students wishing to cycle to and from Medina College, and actively encourage this.
