Weekly Updates from the Headteacher

Well done to our amazing students who took to the IOW Festival Bull Stage in the KidZone last Saturday. What an opportunity and an experience! Not many young people can say they have done this. The various groups were a credit to themselves and to the school. Thank you to Mr Winsor for supporting our students. You can read more about this in the news link below. The school site is now returning to normal as all the infrastructure is dismantled.

This week, our Year 10 students started their end of year examinations and these continue next week. It has been pleasing to see the positive manner in which they have approached these important assessments.

The cricketers returned from their island-wide beach cricket tournament on Wednesday having competed successfully. The girls played fantastically in the morning and the boys were crowned the winners in the afternoon!

Yesterday, our Year 9 pupils attended a series of workshops that were led by the Police service about the dangers of County Lines. Our Year 8 pupils took part in a team building day earlier in the week where the Royal Navy provided some challenging activities for our students.

On Monday, we are expecting warm weather and hence students are not required to wear a blazer or tie. For the rest of the week we expect them in full uniform as the weather becomes milder.

Have a lovely weekend.

Year 9 Police Talk - County Lines

The Police led talks with Year 9 yesterday morning on the very important topic of county lines: the transportation of illegal drugs from one area to another, usually by young people coerced by gangs. The Police explained in detail what county lines is, the dangers and consequences of being involved and how to spot the signs that their peers may be getting involved in this sort of activity. They also explained who they can go to for help and support if they themselves become involved in county lines or if they have concerns about someone else being involved.

The officers delivering the sessions have contacted us to say: "All the pupils we delivered this to were well behaved, engaging and asked appropriate questions. We were all really pleased with how they interacted, and they gave a really positive representation of the school."

Well done, Year 9!

Year 8 Team Building Day

Year 8 were lucky enough to get to experience a Royal Navy team building day on Tuesday. Firstly, they delivered a high-energy and informative assembly on the Navy and potential career pathways.

We learnt about the different opportunities they have had through the Navy, including different funded sporting experiences and places they have travelled to worldwide.

The students then split into tutor groups and got to do some icebreaker activities (with press-ups for the losers!) which helped them with communication, teamwork and learning resilience. They finished with the group splitting in two to play some very competitive games of Danish longball.

It was great to see all of our pupils embrace this opportunity and get fully immersed in the activities. It was really nice to see how well the tutor groups worked together and supported each other. The behaviour of the students throughout the day was impeccable, so a huge well done Year 8!
