Weekly Updates from the Headteacher

We have had a fantastic week, packed with events and activities.

We started the week by welcoming our Year 6 students and their families to an evening which provided opportunities to hear messages from myself, the Transition Lead and Head of Year 7. I was thrilled to see the Theatre so full of enthusiastic children and supportive parents/carers. This was followed by our Transition Day on Tuesday. It is always a pleasure to see our new students arrive so excited and eager to take this first step in starting their next chapter in their education. The day was packed with activities which both gave them a taste of what is to come and offered some team-building opportunities. We look forward to welcoming them into our daily community in September.

Yesterday evening I had the pleasure of attending the Year 11 Prom. Proms are always such a lovely event as it is a celebration of their education so far. The time, effort and care they all put into their formal dress was clear to see. They were impeccably behaved and a real credit to themselves and the school. We wish them well and look forward to seeing them on results day in August. Thank you to Mrs Rogers and Mr Jones for creating such a lovely event, and to Albert Cottage in East Cowes for hosting it.

This evening we have a performance of 'The Greatest Show', which has been created over the last five days - as our 'Musical in a Week'. Thank you to all the students who have been so dedicated and focused, and to the staff for making this possible.

Please keep an eye on our social media as it is very busy at this time of year, especially celebrating our students. Facebook, Instagram and our website

I hope you enjoy the weekend, and stay hydrated and safe in the sun!

Goodwood Festival of Speed

Yesterday, a group of Year 9 students went to the Goodwood Festival of Speed for a STEM outreach programme. They got to experience future technologies, meet F1 drivers and saw the Red Arrows!

A full report (with photos) to follow next week!

Year 6 Transition

Year 6 students visited us this week for their Transition Day. They had a fantastic day experiencing lessons and a number of exciting activities.  We can't wait for them to officially join our community in September. Thank you to Year 7-10 for making them feel so welcome, especially the Year 9s who supported them throughout the day.

Thank you to our current Year 7s who have spent recent DT lessons making gifts and personal messages for each Year 6 student, which they were given on Tuesday with their Medina College water bottle.

The Island VI Form Taster Day

Year 10 students enjoyed a taster day at the Island VI Form yesterday. They were able to experience interactive activities across the courses offered. In science, they had experiments with strawberry laces to test force, in humanities they learnt to debate on current topics in the news, philosophy they were challenged with which would you rather questions, and they even got creative in art using three objects to create a design.

Students were really engaged with staff, asking questions about the courses and combinations of subjects. It was a great opportunity to get them really thinking about their next steps after GCSEs next year.

Year 11 Prom

We hope Year 11 students enjoyed their Prom which was held yesterday evening at Albert Cottage. A full report will be shared on the website next week with photos of the event.

Thank you to Mr Jones and Mrs Rogers for organising such a wonderful celebration to mark the end of Year 11's journey at Medina College.

Unfortunately, The Isle of Wight County Press were unable to attend the event. They would still like to feature it in their next Proms supplement, so have asked for photos to please be shared with them - editor@iwcp.co.uk
