Weekly Updates from the Leadership Team

Firstly, we would like to say a huge well done and congratulations to the cast and crew of our school production, Bugsy Malone, which took place yesterday evening in the Theatre. It was a fantastic show that showcased all four of our school values. Ambition - they had only been rehearsing since the start of the Autumn term. Courage - performing on stage in front of a live audience is no easy task. Confidence - any nerves were completely hidden! And Kindness - the way everyone supported one another was wonderful to see. Thank you to all the students who took part, and to the staff and supporting adults who made the show possible. It was a true team effort and demonstrated exactly what Medina College can achieve. Thank you, everyone.

It was wonderful to welcome local primary school students to watch the dress rehearsal of Bugsy Malone yesterday afternoon. Thank you for joining us Barton Primary School, Godshill Primary School and Summerfields Primary School – you made a wonderful, attentive audience.

On Wednesday, we held our Christmas Lunch, provided by Chartwells. A big thank you to the whole team for such a lovely meal - complete with crackers and festive hats!

It has also been a busy week for sport. On Wednesday, we hosted the annual indoor girls’ 5-a-side football tournament, took part in the Year 7 Island Netball Tournament, and yesterday we hosted the Year 9 - 13 Cross Country Championships. Thank you to the PE team for organising and supporting these events, and to our fantastic students for taking part.

A special mention goes to Mole Country Stores for donating our Medina College Christmas tree. It is brightening the centre of the school and adding real festive spirit. We also hope you had the chance to see our Medina College Kindness at Christmas tree at IW Pearl as part of the Brighstone Christmas Tree Festival. If not, it can still be viewed between 10am and 3pm until 31 December.

Next Wednesday afternoon, The Island VI Form will be holding a Christmas Fair to raise money for the Mozambique trip, and some of our students will be singing at The Hospice earlier that day. Please also remember our special ‘Comfy Clothes Day’ on Friday, raising funds for the School Pastors. A reminder that school finishes after P3 at 12.45pm on Friday.

Well done to our 'Kindness token' winners this week - Merryn, Freddie, Emily, Kai and Jude - we had another large amount to be able to randomly select winners from! Well done to everyone who was given a token!

Thank you for your ongoing support. We hope you have a lovely weekend.

Christmas Dinner

Huge thanks to our fantastic catering team for providing us with the most delicious Christmas Dinner on Wednesday this week! Our plates (and hearts) were full of festive joy!

Island Netball Tournament

This week the Year 7  Netball team played in the Island tournament at Cowes Enterprise College. We were drawn in a tough group against Cowes Enterprise College A, Ryde School A, Christ the King College and Carisbrooke College. Despite this, we had some fantastic wins and the games we drew or lost were hard fought.

There was some excellent shooting and all the girls worked incredibly hard. We came a commendable 5th place out of nine teams.

A very enjoyable evening, well done!

Year 7 Girls' Indoor 5-a-side

This week we hosted the annual Indoor Girls' 5-a-side tournament. Attending this year were Christ the King College, who came first, The Bay Secondary School 2nd, Carisbrooke College 3rd, Medina College 4th and Lift Ryde 5th. It was a fantastic evening for the girls to showcase their skills and determination. Sportsmanship was evident in all games and it was a really good evening.

Well done to the Medina team who worked hard and were coached and managed by the lovely student leader Amelia F.

Excellent work girls!

Island Schools' Cross Country Championships

On Thursday, Medina hosted the senior round of the Island School's Cross Country Championships for students in Years 9-13. The best runners from across the island came together to battle it out over the very wet 2.2km course!

There were some outstanding races with very close sprint finishes. Congratulations to the Medina runners who represented us so well. Megan (2nd in the Year 9 girls), Alfie (6th in the Year 9 boys), Jaiden (3rd in the Year 10 boys), Own and Zuheb (6th & 7th in the Year 10 boys and Mitchell (8th in the Year 10 boys).

A special thank you to another group of amazing Sports Leaders who helped to set up, run and take down the event. You were incredible and also made Medina proud! Well done to; Rose, Mary, Eloise, Sophie, Louis, Molly, Jake, Kalli, George, Austin, Preston, Amelie and Zoe.

Bugsy Malone

We will have a full report and photo gallery next week for Bugsy Malone, but for now, Mrs Rogers wanted to share the following message:

"To all our wonderful staff, students, friends, and family,

Thank you so much for joining us last night and showing your support. Having an enthusiastic audience made the evening even more special, and we are truly grateful that you took the time to come and share the experience with us.
Our incredible students have worked tirelessly over the past weeks to bring Bugsy Malone to life, and their dedication truly shone on stage. We are so proud of every single one of them.

We hope you enjoyed the show as much as they enjoyed performing it.
Thank you for helping make the evening so special."
