Welcome to this week’s newsletter.
This has been a week full of celebration at Medina College. On Monday evening, we were delighted to welcome our new Year 6 into Year 7 students and their parents/carers, followed by the students joining us for their Transition Day on the Tuesday. We were incredibly proud of how enthusiastic, respectful and mature they were throughout the day. Moving from primary to secondary school is a significant milestone, and we hope our new students left feeling confident, excited and ready to begin the next chapter of their journey with us.
Today, we began our celebrations to mark 50 years of Medina. Students enjoyed a wide range of activities as part of our whole-school community, including baking enough cakes for the whole school, geocaching, mosaics, musical theatre, capture the flag, pebble painting, a river walk, outdoor art and British Sign Language, to name just a few. The day ended with the whole school coming together on the field for a final celebration during the last hour of the day.
It was a wonderful insight into the kind of enrichment opportunities we will be developing further as part of our Enrichment Programme next academic year. These experiences help students build confidence, try something new, work with others and enjoy being part of our school community.
Next week, our Year 10 students will be taking part in work experience. This is such an important opportunity for students to flourish in a new environment, develop independence and build valuable social and practical skills beyond the classroom.
Finally, we appreciate that the weather has felt particularly intense recently. Please ensure that your child brings a refillable water bottle to school each day and applies sun cream before leaving home in the morning.
