Welcome to the newsletter for this week.
Our Year 7 students have had a busy week here in school, completing the second full week and settling into their routines, taking school photographs, sitting their CATs assessments, as well as starting to enjoy our extra curricular activities. Yesterday evening, our brand new Year 7 football team played their first match with our school values of ambition, courage, confidence and kindness. Whilst the scoreline was not the outcome we hoped for, the respect shown by both teams was fantastic.
Alongside our Year 11 students continuing to study hard for their exams, we have also had the pleasure of interviewing our next round of student leaders. The students who put themselves forward were a credit to themselves and to us. They spoke eloquently, with enthusiasm and many with impressive strategic opinions. With many leadership positions available, we will be sharing the outcome with them at the start of next week when final decisions have been made.
A couple of pleas this week. Firstly, please remind your child about the importance of arriving at school in full school uniform. Wearing our school uniform with pride is a sign of respect and belonging. It reflects respect for our shared expectations and shows that we are part of the Medina community, where every student is valued. A shared uniform helps reduce the pressure to follow fashion trends and reinforces that, whatever our backgrounds, we all belong. Arriving in the correct uniform also supports our expectations of being Ready, Respectful and Safe, helping students start each day prepared for learning. If you are experiencing difficulties with any aspect of uniform, please contact your child’s tutor so that we can work together to help. Secondly, can car drivers please be mindful of where they are parking whilst dropping off before school or picking up after school. We have had some reports from local residents with concerns for the safety of children as it feels hazardous in places. Thank you in advance for your support with both of these requests.
If you are not already aware, there was an update to expand eligibility for Free School Meals at the start of this academic year. Please do have a look at this information to see if you may now be eligible.
Next week we look forward to welcoming Year 6 students from across the Island to our Open Evening. We are very excited to show our values in action.
