Weekly Updates from the Headteacher

Welcome to the final update of this term. It does not seem possible that a whole term has gone by since I started. It has been an enjoyable and interesting term with much achieved and even more planned for the coming months.

This week in school we have celebrated our students in assemblies. We had a group of students from Thailand visit the school, working with year 10 buddies who supported them for the week, and our bleep test event yesterday - thank you to our staff and students who took part, it was great to see the friendly, healthy competition!

Year 11 students/parents/carers please remember that we have some revision sessions on offer over Easter. Year 11 students should be taking the holiday period to do a variety of activities. This includes, revision but also, relaxing, being healthy and recharging their batteries ready for the vitally important term they have ahead of them when they come back.

Year 10 Parents, the first Wednesday back after Easter we are holding our Parents' Evening. Thank you to all of those parents/carers who have signed up. If you have not yet done so, please do before we come back to school. It will be an informative evening which will help both your child and you.

I hope you have relaxing vacation and look forward to seeing students after the break.

An end of term message from the Year 11 Student Leaders

Over the last half term, the five of us in the Medina College Student Leadership Team have accomplished various things. We have been around tutor groups in all years to gain feedback on what students would like to happen to make things better in school, helped at parents' and options evenings, we have also had an impact behind the scenes in relaying back to Mr Bains fortnightly Student Voice. We have supported the fundraisers shown through mufti days, an example being our recent Red Nose Day.

We hope to have as much of a positive impact as we can in the little time we have left. We would like to have a role in more student support. An idea we have is to have at least one or two of us in the library at set times each week so that we can help students and be their voice more regularly. We would also like to continue to help in evening events and supporting teachers. We would love to be able to support the current Year 10 and have a role in choosing and preparing the next student leaders.

Thai Student Visitors

This week we welcomed 8 students from Thailand to spend a week with our Year 10 students. This is part of a cultural programme organised through the The Isle of Wight College. The students have all come from different parts of Thailand with the intention of improving their English and experiencing British culture. Our students have really enjoyed spending time with the Thai students and learning all about Thai culture.

Design Tech Key Stage 3 rotation work

There has been some fabulous Design Technology work during this term's rotation for Key Stage 3. Year 7 in particular has produced outstanding practical outcomes. In resistant materials with Mr Murdoch they have expanded on their accurate measuring and tool skills to make beautifully finished boxes, while in textiles with Miss Whitchurch they have investigated pattern and adornment. A huge well done!

Staff v Students Bleep Test

Thank you to the staff and students who took part in the Bleep Test yesterday lunchtime to raise funds for the Year 11 Prom. There was a great atmosphere in the Sports Hall with the audience cheering everyone on and supporting. Everyone put in an admirable effort and gave it their all.

Well done to Mr Spence on winning by reaching level 12.11. £52 was raised for the Year 11 Prom.
