Weekly Updates from the Headteacher

Welcome to the first newsletter of the final half term of this academic year. It has been a busy start to this final eight weeks.

Six of our Year 9 students have been in Aberdeen this week for the finals of the Global Underwater Hub national STEM competition. They did a fantastic job at representing the school and we are very proud of them all. They all landed safely back at Heathrow last night. Thank you to Mr Spence and Miss O'Callaghan for supporting the students.

Our Year 10 Geography students also enjoyed a fieldwork activity in Yaverland this week. They were a credit to themselves and the school.

Year 9 students have been having conversations with some of our senior staff about their KS4 Options preferences. We will be sharing the subjects that they have been allocated to later this term.

Public examinations continue for our Year 11 pupils  who are approaching these important exams with maturity and composure. Due to several sets of roadworks across the Island, please ensure that students leave enough time to get to school for their exams and if necessary consider catching the earlier bus.

Next week we look forward to welcoming our Year 7 Parents/Carers into school on Wednesday evening to meet with subject staff. If any Year 7 Parents/Carers have not yet booked appointments then please do through the Arbor App.

I hope you have a lovely weekend

Six of our Year 9 students took part in the final of the Global Underwater Hub STEM Competition yesterday in Aberdeen. To even reach this stage of the competition was an incredible achievement!

Unfortunately, our team did not win. However, the judges commented on our students working the best as a team and commended their marketing skills.

A full report will follow next week, but we wanted to share how proud we are of these exceptional young people! They were amazing ambassadors for our school.

On Tuesday 3 June it was the annual Geography field trip to Sandown and Yaverland. This is a compulsory part of the students’ GCSE Geography studies. It is also a great opportunity to experience first hand some of the wonderful Geography this island has to offer.

Despite the appalling weather, all pupils engaged enthusiastically with the beach profiling and other fieldwork techniques that will be vital in their exam in the summer of 2026.

The conduct and behaviour of the pupils involved was amazing, and they were an absolute credit to the school.

Here are the lovely U15 cricketers, who put up a brave battle in their first game of the season. It was a close run match. Medina finished on 74 for 6 and The Bay were 81 for 5. It was an amusing match and played in good spirits by both teams. We go again next Tuesday against The Island Free School.

Term Dates and Development Days

Term dates and development days for next academic year have been added to the website. Take a look here.

From the 2025–2026 academic year, all schools across our Trust will move from five to six INSET (In-Service Training) days. This collective decision reflects our shared commitment to the values of ambition, excellence, sustainability, courage, and equity for all. The additional day will be dedicated to high-quality professional development for our staff, ensuring we continue to provide the very best education for every child in every school. We thank you for your continued support as we invest in our teams and work together to realise our vision for every learner.

Good luck Mr Rock - taking on a 9000m ascent challenge tomorrow for The Huntington's Disease Association! ⛰️

Mr Rock will be walking uphill to a height of 9000m (which is higher than Mount Everest) by walking up Bonchurch Down 38 times. Starting at 7 am tomorrow morning, he will keep going until all 38 ascents are completed - likely to take between 24 - 28 hours.

Most people in our community will know that The Huntington's Disease Association is a cause very close to Mr Rock's heart. Any donations to his fundraising will be so appreciated, no matter how small. If you are able to support him, please visit his Just Giving page where you will also find more details about the challenge and his story.
