Weekly Updates from the Headteacher

It was lovely to see so many Year 7 parents/carers at Parents' Evening this week. It was heartwarming to hear how well their child has settled into school life, and talking about the positive relationships that have been built up over this year. This is a really positive sign for the start of Year 8.

Year 11 have had their last full week of exams. There are a handful between Monday and Wednesday next week, so please encourage your Year 11 child to focus on this final push. We look forward to seeing them all back on results day in August!

Last weekend, our very own Mr Rock completed a personal challenge, raising  funds and awareness for Huntington's Disease. The challenge was to walk from sea level to an elevation of 9000m, which is higher than the summit of Mount Everest. He did this by ascending the 239m-high Bonchurch Down 38 times from sea level to the top, in a single day. This is such a great example of determination and resilience. Thank you to Mr Rock for leading assemblies on this topic this week.

A letter will be shared with you today with details of the arrangement for next week as the IOW Festival approaches.

This coming week is National Picnic Week. This is an annual event that encourages people across the UK to embrace the great outdoors, enjoy delicious food, and spend quality time with friends and family. The Island has so many beautiful spots to have a picnic and the weather for the weekend is looking perfect for this too.

A few friendly reminders and updates...

As we head into the warmer months, we have a few friendly reminders and updates to share with you:

Scooters and Locks
We are seeing more students bringing scooters into school, which is fantastic for promoting active travel. However, we would like to kindly advise that all scooters are securely locked in the bike sheds, just as students would with bicycles. This ensures that all scooters are safe.

Staying Hydrated
With the weather becoming hotter, please ensure your child brings a reusable water bottle to school each day. Staying hydrated is vital for concentration and wellbeing, especially during lessons and break times.

Uniform Donations – Supporting Our Community
If your child in Year 11, or any student, has outgrown or no longer needs their school uniform, we would be very grateful for donations. We need to restock then uniform store to support students who may have forgotten or are unable to afford uniform items.
We welcome all clean and usable items, including blazers

  • Shirts
  • Trousers
  • Skirts
  • Ties
  • PE Kit

Donations can be brought into school and handed in at reception.

Henna – Reminder
Please may we remind families that henna is not appropriate for use in school. If brought in, it will be confiscated and disposed of. We appreciate your support in ensuring school remains a suitable environment for all students.

Thank you for your continued support.

Darts Success

Well done to Year 9 student, Jack, who took part in the IOW Youth Darts Academy monthly knock-out competition last weekend. Jack made it through to the final, after some very competitive games, and ended up winning 2-0. He played amazingly well! Congratulations, Jack!

Medina had 4 students represent Newport U14s football team - Austin, Jaiden, Owen and Dylan. They were very successful this season winning the IOW league and cup double, putting in some excellent performances throughout the season. Well done lads!

Newport U12's football team had 4 students from Medina represent them - Max, Dylan, Freddie and Liam. After coming second in the league they managed to win the IOW cup 3-0. Max scored a stunning free kick in the final. Great result lads.

Newport U13 cricket team produced a wonderful performance to retain the IW cup on Monday v Ventnor at Steephill. Medina had an impressive five students representing them and they performed strongly. Well done Jacob, Max, Drew, Archie and Oscar!
