Welcome to October!
Assemblies have been led this week about Black History month. This year the theme is 'Standing Firm in Power and Pride', and has six pillars to support this: Power in Protest, Pride in Our Roots, Icons of Influence, Black Excellence in the Arts, Future in Focus, Service and Sacrifice.
"History isn’t a solid set of facts…It’s very much about what questions you ask of the past. If you ask different questions, you get different answers. People weren’t asking questions about diversity. Now they are.”, Miranda Kaufmann.
Next week assemblies will be looking at Mental Health ahead of us celebrating World Mental Health Day on Friday, 10 October - in particular #HelloYellow which is the YoungMinds campaign, where people wear yellow to show young people that they are not alone with their mental health struggles. To support this, students are invited to come to school wearing something yellow, and pay £1 via the Arbor App to fundraise for this.
In addition to this we will also be holding a Doughnut sale in support of Mountbatten Isle of Wight - our local Island charity. The work of Mountbatten, Isle of Wight is to promote and provide good care and support for people who are living with, affected by death, dying and bereavement. Students will need 50p cash to purchase a doughnut.
We have been interviewing and assigning our Student Leaders and Student Ambassadors this week. More will follow over the coming weeks about this.
I will close as I opened. The weather is telling us that the season is changing. Please make sure that your child(ren) come appropriately dressed for the changeable weather. It is important that they are as dry and warm as possible when they arrive at school, so that they are ready to learn. Please do remember we have a free and paid breakfast available in the morning, so students can get the very best start to their day ahead.
I hope you have a lovely weekend.
