Weekly Updates from the Leadership Team

As we reach the end of the second week of this half term, we would like to begin by celebrating our successes.

On Tuesday, our whole school community came together to mark Armistice Day and remember those who gave their lives in service. The act of remembrance included the laying of a wreath, the playing of the Last Post, and a two-minute silence observed by the entire school outside. We are extremely proud of how respectfully our students conducted themselves and of how many chose to wear their poppies with pride. Thank you to Mrs Pitman for organising this important annual event.

This week, assemblies have focused on anti-bullying, a theme that has also run through our tutor sessions and PSHE programme. This links closely with one of our new core values: kindness. Since half term, we have introduced ‘kindness tokens’ - a way to instantly recognise and thank students for acts of kindness. This could be something as simple as holding a door open, expressing gratitude, supporting a friend who is feeling low, or any other thoughtful action. Students write their name on the back of each token and place it in our collection box for a prize draw taking place the week after next. We will revisit this in the week commencing 24 November.

Our Year 11 students deserve a huge well done for the mature and focused way they have approached their trial exams this week. They have taken the expectations and logistics of the exam venues seriously, and we are proud of their effort. We will be holding a trial results event so that the experience mirrors what they can expect in the summer. The results will also help us ensure the right plans and support are in place for the next stages of their preparation.

Yesterday evening, we held our annual Island VI Form Open Evening, which was very well attended. For any Year 11 students who were unable to join us, please visit the “Apply to join us” page on our website, where you will find the prospectus and details of upcoming Open Mornings over the next few months.

As advanced notice, we will be holding a food bank collection event for w/c 24 November, so if you have anything that you feel you could contribute, please keep it to one side. Further details will be shared.

We look forward as always to welcoming our students back to school on Monday, on time, in full uniform and ready to learn.

Have a lovely weekend.

Armistice Day - Remembrance

Medina College came together as a whole community outside on Tuesday morning to mark Armistice Day and remember those who gave their lives in service.

The whole-school act of remembrance involved students laying a wreath, the Last Post being played and a two-minute silence observed.

We are very proud of how respectful the students were throughout and how many were proudly wearing their poppies. Thank you to the Student Council who have been actively selling poppies around the school, helping to raise important funds for the Royal British Legion.

Netball News

Last Thursday, the Year 10s competed in their annual netball tournament. They played exceptionally well and showed great sportsmanship throughout the evening. All the girls put in 100% effort and were rewarded with three wins out of six games. Their pace on the court and fitness levels were to be commended. Fabulous work ladies!

Football News

On Tuesday the Year 9 and 10 football team set out for a game against Christ the King College. We were missing a few key players for various reasons but we gave a valiant performance. It was pretty even for most of the match and the score was 1-1 for a lengthy nail biting period. Strong performances across all positions kept us in the game but, after a hard battle, CTK scored a second time.

The girls worked so hard throughout the game. Well done to all of them.

The Year 8 boys played against Cowes Enterprise College on Wednesday afternoon on their artificial pitch. It was a great game finishing 6-4 to Cowes. Some excellent goals were scored during the game and the effort and work rate on show was impressive. Well done!
