Weekly Updates from the Leadership Team

Welcome to the penultimate newsletter of this half-term – it hardly seems possible that we are already approaching the end of the spring term!

We would like to begin by thanking our PE staff and the Year 8 students who took part in the Secondary School Athletics Championships this week. We were proud to host schools from across the Island, and our students represented themselves and the school superbly.

This week, our Year 9 students received the second of three assemblies focused on the KS4 pathways process. The assembly explored the Creative and Technology subjects available to them as they begin to look ahead to Year 10.

Next Wednesday, we look forward to welcoming Year 11 parents and carers to Parents’ Evening. This is a vital opportunity to gain a clear understanding of how your child is currently working, identify the small steps needed to make further progress, and discuss the additional support available beyond timetabled lessons. If you have not yet booked your appointments, please do so via the Arbor app.  If you experience any difficulties doing this, please do contact the main school reception, who can assist with this.

This week, we have also been celebrating attendance. Well done to all students who have achieved or are working towards another impressive attendance streak. Our 60-day streak badges will be awarded next week!

Next week’s assemblies will focus on neurodiversity, and our values theme will once again be courage - courage isn’t about never being scared; it’s about trying your best even when you are.

Finally, next Friday marks the final day of the first spring half-term. Please remember that Monday, 23 February, is a Staff Development Day, so students will return to school on Tuesday, 24 February.

We hope you have a lovely weekend.

Island Secondary Schools Sports Hall Athletics Championships

On Wednesday we hosted the Island Secondary Schools Sports Hall Athletics Championships for students in year 8. It was a highly competitive competition with very high levels of performances in the different events. Our team performed outstandingly and finished in the middle of the leaderboard at the end.

Well done to the whole team: Austin, Peter, Arthur, Ethan, Alfie, Luke, Immy, Amelia, Freya, Erynn, Isla, Polly and Sadie our team manager for the day.  Special mention goes to Alfie for fighting through an injury to keep competing to the end. Also to Amelia , Erynn and Peter for top 3 finishes in events!

You did us proud #wearemedina!

Medina College Year 11 Half Term Support Sessions

We are pleased to be able to offer our Year 11 students support sessions over the half-term.  Please see details of these on the attached chart.

Student Collection arrangements

If a student is being collected during the school day, please could we kindly ask, for safeguarding reasons, that the person collecting them come inside the main school reception.  This allows us to confirm their identity and check that they are authorised to collect the child.

Thank you for your understanding, this will ensure consistency and safety.

KS3 Boys badminton team

The Key Stage 3 boys’ badminton team won their matches against The Bay and Lift Ryde, before losing in the final to Cowes.

It was a very close finish with the final match ending 11–10, meaning we came second overall.

Unlucky lads, great effort!

Sports Leaders

On Tuesday, we hosted the Newport Area Primary Schools basketball competition. This event gave all our incredible sports leaders another opportunity to build their leadership experience. They represented us amazingly; receiving great feedback from the schools, students and staff involved.

Well done to Preston S, Austin F, Theo R, Drew C, Dylan C, Demi S, Eloise W and Austin S.
