Weekly Updates from the Leadership Team

We start the final update for this half-term by saying Well Done to Year 11, as they experienced their final trial results day, before the real thing!
They approached the assembly and envelope opening with maturity. The most important message is that there is still time. If the grades were not what they wanted, then there is time to address this, focus on gaps in learning and make sure that every lesson, revision session and independent learning time is used to full effect. If the grades were as hoped, then there is still time to try and achieve this and more in the real exams. There is a link here to the revision sessions that are being offered over the Easter break. Please encourage your child to make the most of them. There is also a link here to our Exams guidance and regulations information. Students also have access to useful information on Google Classroom on the internal exams site.

Today we are proud to support the island-wide mufti day, and the fundraising efforts for Nettlestone Primary Year 1 pupil, Tula, who was diagnosed with rare Acute Myeloid Leukaemia. Students and staff have taken part in embracing the theme of bright and/or glittery clothing. Our support and thoughts go to Tula and her family.
This week we have held celebration assemblies. This is such a lovely way to end the half-term.
We hope the students taking part in the ski trip over the Easter Holidays have a fantastic time, and we look forward to them updating us when they get back.
You will have received a letter from us today covering reminders about the start of the next half-term.  Thank you in advance for supporting our messages with your child.
We look forward to welcoming students back to school on Monday, 13 April, ready to embrace our Medina values of Ambition, Courage, Confidence and Kindness. #WeAreMedina.

Year 10 & 11 Theatre Trip to To Kill a Mockingbird

Students from Years 10 and 11 recently had the exciting opportunity to visit the Mayflower Theatre to watch a powerful stage production of To Kill a Mockingbird, starring Richard Coyle.

The trip was a great success, with students representing the school exceptionally well throughout the visit. Their behaviour was exemplary, and they were a credit to the school at all times. We are very proud of all the students.

The production itself was both engaging and thought-provoking. Students thoroughly enjoyed the performance, finding it not only entertaining but also highly educational. The play’s exploration of important themes such as justice, prejudice, and moral courage resonated strongly with them.

Following the performance, the students demonstrated maturity and insight in their discussions, reflecting thoughtfully on the issues raised in the play. They showed respect for the sensitive themes and engaged in meaningful conversations, deepening their understanding of the text and its relevance today.

A huge thank you goes to Mrs O’Callaghan and Mr Biddlecombe for their support on the trip. Overall, it was a valuable and memorable experience that enriched students’ learning beyond the classroom.

Inter School badminton

We recently held an inter-school badminton match for Yr 9,10,11 and the sixth form. The top players from each year group showcased their badminton skills, playing some fantastic quality badminton matches.

It's great to see their practice is paying off and we have some really talented players.

Well played everyone!

Celebrating an out of school achievement

Well done to Rose in Year 11, who recently participated in the National Rowing Championships at the Copper Box Arena in London last week.  Rose came in 7th nationally after giving it everything, making this a personal best!  When she attended in 2024, the last time it was held in person, she came in 142nd place.

What an incredible achievement!  Congratulations Rose!

Yr 9/10 indoor football tournament

The Yr 9/10 indoor football tournament was brilliant. Lots of good teams played some really entertaining matches with all teams scoring plenty of goals!

The final was between penalty shootout specialists 'the Superboys' and ABC United. It was a tight match which ABC won 1-0 through a deflected goal.

Well played everyone!

Girls sports teams update

It's been a busy year so far for the girls sports teams. We've had netball tournaments, U13 & U15 football leagues, U13 and U15 cricket tournaments and U13 &U15 Spring 6-a-side tournaments. Everyone who has represented Medina in these fixtures has been a true ambassador for the college. They always play competitively but with a great sense of humour and a true grasp of sportsmanship.

Next term we will be switching to rounders and cricket clubs ready for the summer season. Bring on the sun!

Yr 7/ 8 indoor football tournament

The Year 7 and 8 boys took part in an indoor football tournament during  lunchtimes this term.  The competition was played in great spirit, with all players enjoying the opportunity to play football with their friends—especially during the bad weather.

After a closely contested final, China FC were crowned champions, winning on penalties against The French Baguettes.

Thank you to everyone who took part!
