Weekly Updates from the Leadership Team

Welcome to the first newsletter of the summer term. This term holds some of our most exciting calendar events, including seeing our Year 11 and Year 13 students sit their exams, as well as welcoming in our new Year 6 into 7 students for transition.

We would like to thank all the students and staff who have taken part in recent school events, outside the normal classroom timetable. To name a few, Mr Rock, Miss Caddick, Mr Jones, Miss Blackmore and Miss Divers for the ski trip to Austria over the Easter break – this will be a lifelong memory for those students.  Mrs Garey and Mr Kidd for their work with our VI Form Young Enterprise team, who won the marketing award and the overall winners award at the Hampshire and IW finals this week, meaning we are now through to the next round, the south-east regional finals in London next month.  Additionally, all of our staff who ran revision sessions for our exam students over the Easter break. They were all well attended, showing the commitment and maturity of the students as they approach their exams in less than a month's time.

Next week, on 22 April, we look forward to welcoming our Year 7 parents/carers in for Parents' Evening. Your child is 2/3 of the way through their first year with us, so it will be an important opportunity to discuss how they are working and engaging, so that we can ensure that we make sure we use this term to address any concerns, before they move up into Year 8.

You will have received a letter earlier in the week reminding you of our school expectations. Your support with these messages is vital in order for us to continue to build on the successes in our school community. The key things to remember are that we want the whole of our community to embody our values of Ambition, Courage, Confidence and Kindness, and also live our school rules of being Ready, Respect and Safe.

Please also ensure that you have read the letter sent earlier this week about the road closure which starts on Monday. The main message being, please leave more time for travelling to and from school and ensure your child knows what they need to do with their bus journey.

We hope that you have a lovely weekend, and we look forward to welcoming students back on Monday.

Flachau 2026: A Fantastic Week on the Slopes

Over the Easter break, a group of 40 students and 5 staff from the HISP Isle of Wight schools set off on an unforgettable journey to Flachau, Austria. After a long but exciting 24-hour coach journey, they arrived to bright sunshine and a warm welcome at the hotel, setting the tone perfectly for the week ahead.

What followed were five fantastic days on the slopes, packed with skiing, snowboarding, learning new skills, attempting (and landing!) tricks and jumps, and making the most of the brilliant conditions. Off the slopes, there was just as much fun to be had, from snowball fights to relaxing in the sunshine and earning the inevitable “ski tan.”

The group were outstanding throughout; supportive of one another, enthusiastic, and a real credit to the schools. The snow conditions were excellent all week, and remarkably, there were no injuries (despite a few close calls and some determined attempts!).

All in all, this was an incredible trip, full of laughter, challenge, and unforgettable memories. It was, quite possibly, the best fun ever had on a school trip!

Platform One 🎶

We were delighted to welcome Platform One today as part of Music Careers Week.

Andy Booth (Lecturer and Music Industry Liaison) delivered an inspiring talk to our Year 9 students exploring the wide range of creative careers available within the music industry and beyond.

By highlighting successful Isle of Wight bands and industry professionals, students were able to see just how far a passion for the creative arts can take you.

We were also treated to an incredible live performance from Platform One’s house band, The Project, who had everyone thoroughly engaged and entertained!

Well done to our students for their fantastic behaviour and engagement throughout.

School Transportation

Students already receiving transport

Students from Year 7 -11 who already receive school transport do not need to do anything unless their circumstances have changed, or if transport has been specifically agreed for a set period of time. For example, if you have moved home or school, you will need to reapply for transport by the relevant deadline. If your child is in year 11, their eligibility for free transport will cease at the end of the current academic year and you will need to explore alternative transport arrangements for your child’s post-16 education or training, even if your child will continue to attend the same setting.

On the first day of term, students who are travelling on a contracted bus service will be able to travel without a valid ticket providing they are in school uniform. Bus passes will be sent to the school to be distributed to students on their first day.

School Clubs

Both lunchtime clubs and after school clubs have now been updated for the summer term.  Unless specified, no booking is necessary.
