Weekly Updates from the Leadership Team

Welcome to our final newsletter of this half-term! It is hard to believe we are entering the final stretch, with only one half-term left of the academic year.

We would like to begin by congratulating our Year 11 students on their continued focus, maturity, and resilience during their exams. Parents and carers of Year 11 students will receive a detailed letter from us today. Please take the time to read through these important updates and encourage your children to attend the upcoming half-term revision sessions.

Our Year 10s will soon be taking up the exam baton. To help them prepare, we held an exam expectations assembly with them today. Year 10 parents will receive a follow-up letter after the break regarding the trial exams scheduled for the end of June.

Beyond the exam hall, it was wonderful to see our Year 7s enjoying an afternoon of inter-tutor group football this Wednesday. This fantastic event was brilliantly organised by our Year 12 Sports students. A huge thank you to all the Year 12s, Year 7s, and supporting staff who made the afternoon such a success!

Looking ahead, next half-term promises to be exceptionally busy and exciting. We have a variety of school events planned and are particularly looking forward to welcoming our new Year 6 students for their transition days and celebrating 50 years of Medina.

Thank you to all the parents and carers who took the time to complete our recent survey. We are currently analysing the results to ensure your valuable feedback helps shape our next steps.

Finally, while we remain focused on a strong finish to this year, we are also looking ahead to September. As part of this, we are refining our expectations to develop a strong culture of respect and engagement across the school, which will ensure that the whole school community is Ready, Respectful and Safe. We will be sharing more details with you and our students over the coming weeks so that we are all aligned on the journey ahead.

We hope you have a lovely Bank Holiday weekend and half term - if you have the opportunity to enjoy some time off - the weather is looking promising!

Knife Crime Awareness Week

As part of Knife Crime Awareness Week, we welcomed PCSO Romie Winchester and PC Tom Wathen to work with our students and help raise awareness of knife crime in the UK.

During the session, they shared examples of weapons seized by Isle of Wight Police and spoke about the serious impact knife crime can have on individuals, families, and communities. Students learnt about different types of knives, the laws around carrying them, and how to recognise whether an item is legal or illegal to possess.

The officers encouraged discussion by showing images of different knives and asking students to think critically about the risks and consequences associated with carrying weapons.

If any parents/carers would like to find out more about knife crime awareness week, please take a look at the website here.
