U13 Cricket Champions!
On Tuesday, our U13 boys cricket team made the short trip to Newclose Cricket Ground to take part in (potentially) two fixtures. The first game was against the Island Free School who they tied against last month. Oliver won the toss and asked The Free school to bat first. The boys bowled well, restricting the Free School to 72 runs in their overs. There were wickets for Max, Oliver, Jacob and Sam plus a run out for Sam and Oscar. When it was Medina's turn to bat, Max and Oliver started strongly, putting on 30 for the first wicket. The runs kept flowing as Medina edged towards the target and, finally, Oliver hit a 4 to finish on 22 runs and complete the victory to take Medina into the final against The Bay.
The Final: The Bay won the toss and asked Medina to bat first. With confidence high from the previous game, Oliver and Max strode out to the wicket. However, it was The Bay who made the better start by reducing Medina to 18 for 4 in the 5th over. Sam then made 15 valuable runs to make sure Medina had some runs to set The Bay a target. Medina knew that if they had any chance of winning, they had to take early wickets and they certainly didn't disappoint. Max took a wicket with the second ball of The Bay's innings. The Bay showed some resistance and looked like edging towards the target with ease. However, during Max's 3rd over, the game was turned on its head. The over started with The Bay on 17-1. By the end of it, Max had bowled three batters to leave The Bay 17-4. The game was now in our control. Medina kept bowling well and took the final 3 wickets (1 for Archie and 2 for Oscar) to make Medina U13 champions for 2025.
This is a fantastic achievement and the boys showed skill, resilience and character to win both games. They supported each other throughout and were a real credit to the school. Well done to Oliver and the team!
